The doors on my bmw won't open sometimes. The battery on my remote had died so I put in a new one and it did the trick for a few days that is but after that my car went insane. I press the unlock button on my remote and it will only open the drivers side door. The rear and passenger doors will not open. When I press the central unlock button it won't do anything. After maybe 10 tries. Take the panel apart when the door is open then shut the door and lock it and see what happens. The moving parts in the door dont rely on the door panel so its safe to remove when the door is open. He can't open the door from inside or outside. Which means he can't open it at all. Which means it's permanently closed. If your BMW X5's passenger door won't open from the inside or outside you are most likely dealing with a broken latch assembly that needs replacing. Drivers Front door will not open from outside or inside??? Hey guys, So this morning my wife went out to the car.It is cold here in Jersey this morning about 25 degrees.The drivers door wount open from the outside or inside.From the outside when the handle is being pulled it seems as there is no detent.Normal the outside handle stops when there tension on the cable and then pops the door.None of that is present.Most of the door were frozen on the car due to the temperatures but opened.With the remote you can see the door actuator pulsing the door pin up and down on the door panel.Also from the inside same thing when the handle is being pulled is seems as there is no tensioner on the handle.I am thinking at this point maybe door handle has failed or the cable???But besides that how can I get the drivers door open without damaging the exterior or interior panel??Can the master switch be pulled and then that space used to open the door?? I replaced the passenger door handle last year however that door didn't open from the outside only.So that's why im guessing at this point.has anyone had this issue before and what was the fix?? Hello. If the door will not open, then the issue may be the latch, but it may also be the linkage that connects the handles to the latch. You will need to access the inside of the door panel to have access to the locking mechanism and door latch, as well as verify the condition of that linkage. With the door shut, you will have limited space to pull off the door panel, but you should have enough room to do so.
Do to that, you must remove the bolts and pop out the retaining clips around the perimeter (which will be the hard part). Be careful not to break the clips; typically you have space to use a special tool, but you will only have a small amount of space to work with. Once you get the inside door panel off, you will have access to the latch and be able to open the door for the inspection. Manipulate the handles and check the linkage and latch release mechanism. With some simple observation, you should be able to find the issue rather quickly.
